Day 5

Day 5

Here are the group and individual activities for Day 5.

FEEDBACK:

Remember my two guidelines:

1.     Inside voices

2.     Stay within your own group

ACTIVITIES:

Today we will start to look at individual operas and the arts involved with opera.

Make sure that everyone has in their notebook the notes concerning the three operas, plot, characters, and composer.

On the separate piece of paper:

Read pages 241-254 in the green music book concerning the operas “Madama Butterfly,” “Tannhauser,” and “Amahl and the Night Visitor.”

Listen to the three songs from the three operas (I will be playing them during the period.)

What are the differences between the three songs?

Opera began in the 1600’s.  Do you think that opera has changed since it began?  Why?

Which do you think would be easier:  To write the music and then the words; or to write the words and then the music?  Explain.

Journal Activity:

1.     Tell me in your own words about one of the five operas that you have looked at so far.  Be specific.

Additional group activities:

1.               Continue work on your Opera Presentation (project) “Hansel & Gretel.”  (Characters, plot, songs, etc.)
