Here are the group and individual activities for Day 7:
FEEDBACK:
Remember my two guidelines:
ACTIVITIES:
The following is taken from “The NPR Curious Listener’s Guide to Opera” by William Berger.
Arts in opera:
“Clearly, opera as we know it is more than an outrageous style of singing. In fact, it is in some sense the amalgamation and the culmination of all the performing arts. It has evolved into such an elaborate art form that it requires the greatest expertise in singing, orchestral playing, conducting, dancing, stage designing, applying makeup, costuming, wig making, lighting, and diction coaching, to mention only some aspects of live production. It also requires a high level of marketing, fundraising, educational programming and labor negotiating. Richard Wagner, perhaps opera’s most colossal and problematic figure, came closest to realizing the full potential of opera.”
On the separate piece of paper:
What are your thoughts about the statement above concerning the arts and opera?
How would this affect opera companies financially?
Bonus: Name two different composers of opera from the Classical (1750-1820), Romantic (1820-1900), and Twentieth Century (1900-present) Music Periods.
