Don Giovanni

Don Giovanni – an opera written by Wofgang A. Mozart in 1787.  The libretto is in Italian and involves a marble statue that nods its head and speaks.

Characters:

Don Giovanni (bass) – young Spanish nobleman; lover, charmer

Don Pedro (bass) – aged commandant killed by Giovanni in a duel

Donna Anna (soprano) – daughter of Don Pedro; vows to find the killer of her father

Don Ottavio (tenor) – betrothed to Donna Anna

Leoprello (bass) – servant of Giovanni

Donna Elvira (soprano) – young lady deserted by Giovanni while they were eloping

Zerlina (soprano) – peasant girl who almost succumbs to Giovanni’s charm on her wedding day

                   Masetto (baritone) – Zerlina’s bridegroom
