Here are the terms that you should know for our unit on Form:
Form – the structure of a composition, determined by the way its musical materials are organized.
Unity and Variety – a principle of form wherein musical ideas are organized through repetition and contrast.
Repetition and contrast – a formal structure in which some musical ideas are repeated and some musical ideas are different presenting contrast.
Ostinato – a rhythmic or melodic idea that keeps repeating throughout a piece or a section of a piece.
