These are some of the form types that we will look at in class:
AB Form – a formal structure that has two sections each different from the other.
ABA Form – a formal structure that has three sections. The first and last sections are the same. The middle section is different.
Theme and Variation – a composition, each section is a modification of the initial theme.
Arch Form - A formal structure which follows the following pattern: ABCBA
Canon – a form in which a melody begins in one part and then is imitated by other parts in an overlapping fashion. Similar to a round.
