Notes (new page)
The Eighth Grade music class is in part a continuation of the Seventh Grade music class. It is hoped that the student will be able to enjoy his/her music class while also discovering interesting information about the different aspects of music. Topics that will be included in Eighth Grade are as follows: Rhythm, including tempos, note and rest values; Melody, including contour and the notes and parts of the staff; Form, or the structure of a composition; Music Periods, including the Classical, Romantic, and Twentieth Century; and finally, Opera, which is our largest unit.
Students will be writing in their journals about different music activities and during the opera unit. There will be two major Unit tests: one on Rhythm and Melody and the other on Opera. The Final Exam will be an oral exam and not a written one. Also students will participate in two major projects. They are the opera presentation and the composer presentation.
In conclusion, the students will have the opportunity to perform weekly in front of their peers if they want to do that and they will also have the opportunity to perform one or two songs on the keyboard.
Each student will have a variety of individual and group assignments during music class. They include:
